France and Cuba agree on cooperation between Biosphere Reserves

Paris, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) France and Cuba signed a cooperation agreement between the Camargue and Cienaga de Zapata Biosphere Reserves, sites recognized as such by UNESCO.

The signing was carried out by the mayor of Grau du Roi, Robert Crauste, and the island’s ambassador, Otto Vaillant, who highlighted the mutual benefit of the initiative.

The agreement promotes scientific exchange and socioeconomic development in the Camargue and Cienaga de Zapata, established by UNESCO in 1977 and 2000, respectively, and recognized as wetlands of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.

Among the areas of cooperation identified are joint actions for the conservation of protected areas, biodiversity, agroecology, and personnel training.

Of particular significance is the signing of a technical, scientific, and cultural collaboration project, made possible thanks to the support of Cuba Cooperation France, an association with three decades of socioeconomic support for the Caribbean nation.
