Mexico opens Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba

Mexico City, Oct 9 (Prensa Latina) The 9th Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba opens today with the attendance of more than 250 delegates from 27 Latin American countries, Spain, Lebanon, and the United States.

The four-day event will be held at the National Center for the Arts in Mexico City and include keynote speeches and roundtable discussions on issues such as strengthening the solidarity movement with Cuba, the fight against the US blockade, and the demand to remove the island from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.

The strengthening of solidarity in the economic sphere, Latin American and Caribbean coordination and integration, the challenges of disinformation campaigns, and the media war against Cuba will also be addressed.

Aline Perez, of the Mexican Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, expressed, in a conversation with Prensa Latina, the significance of the Meeting at a time marked by the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial siege imposed by Washington on the island.

“Cuba is our beacon, and this event will also serve to show them that they are not alone. May it also be a way to thank them for all they offer to the world,” she said, and highlighted the importance of having representatives from the Caribbean nation.

Perez considered it important to hear updates from the Caribbean country’s delegation present at the meeting on issues such as the effects of the US blockade, the role of youth in continuing the Revolution, and the challenges of the media war.

Fernando Gonzalez, President of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), and Johana Tablada, Deputy Director General of the United States Office at the Cuban Foreign Ministry (MINREX), are among the attendees of the Meeting.
