The day before, the Coordination held a press conference at the PIT-CNT headquarters. On the occasion, activist Christian Mirza, former representative for the Broad Front, rejected the idea that the Palestinian people are excluded from the negotiations promoted by the United States for the Gaza Strip.
A lasting peace is possible without the full and free self-determination of the Palestinian people. Everything else could prove to be a ruse to continue remaining there as they have for decades, he emphasized.
Mirza also noted that this Thursday’s march will again demand that the Uruguayan government issue a “much more forceful” statement. There must be a clear condemnation of the genocide, he opined.
“We call on everyone to take to the streets on October 9th to march for a free Palestine, for the thousands of people, men, women, boys, and girls who resist hunger, bombs, and the silence of those in power to stop this genocide.”
This is stated in a letter, released on the occasion and sent by the mother of one of the Uruguayan women who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, intercepted by the Israeli Navy as she attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
