This WFP warning serves to underline the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis in Haiti.
Months ago, the WFP explained that this problem is also related to the persistent violence in gang-controlled areas that prevent the population from acquiring essential food.
“Famine is imminent, as Haiti is experiencing one of the most serious food crises in the world,” a statement from the international organization emphasized.
Many are reducing their meals and consuming lower-quality products, leading to high rates of malnutrition.
“We need to continue to keep Haiti in our spotlight, even though we know that in some parts of the world, not enough attention has been paid to Haiti. While we’re focused on other crises, we look elsewhere, but Haiti’s crisis is here, it’s now, and it deserves a response,” the statement said.
