Gaza agreement faces tensions and difficulties

Ramallah, Oct 16 (Prensa Latina) The second phase of the negotiations on Gaza did not begin due to difficulties on the ground and Israel's exploitation of loopholes in the terms reached in the first phase, an Egyptian source revealed on Thursday.

International forces must be deployed to avoid future problems, and Cairo is working on that issue, the source, requesting anonymity, told Asharq Al-Awast.

“The situation is extremely dangerous on the ground, given the signs of division that could worsen,” the newspaper affirmed, referring to the clashes in Gaza between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and several clans and groups in the territory.

It noted that the second phase of the agreement reached last week made progress in theory, but it has not been so in practice.

US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social profile on Tuesday the beginning of the second-stage negotiations to end the conflict in Gaza, which has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians.

Egypt, the United States, Turkiye, and Qatar signed a peace plan on Monday to end the war in Gaza, although pending issues, including governance and the armament of Hamas, remain to be resolved.
