Launched on August 13th on the occasion of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s 99th birthday and in the context of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year and the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the initiative officially concluded at 11:59:59 p.m. (local time) this Thursday.
According to the latest report from the Vietnam Red Cross, as of 8:00 p.m. (local time) yesterday, more than 2,090,000 individual and collective contributions totaling approximately 555.8 billion dong (more than $21.1 million).
In a post on its Facebook page, the humanitarian social organization recalled the beginning, just over two months ago, of what it described as a special trip, filled with compassion, gratitude, and a deep mutual understanding between the two nations.
Referring to the imminent conclusion of the campaign, it noted that “the good emotions it leaves behind will surely resonate for a long time in the hearts of all Vietnamese.”
On the same social network, user Pham Tran Hoa described the affection of the Vietnamese toward the people of Cuba as “incredible and impressive,” while Dinh Lan noted that “if it weren’t for the last two historic floods (that affected Vietnam), the number would have exceeded 650 billion VND.”
