In the 16 of the 22 departments with Cuban presence, the white-coated professionals will begin early in the morning, in special morning sessions, commemorating the victory of the nascent Mambi independence army under the command of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes in the capture of the eastern city of Bayamo.
Each doctor will express to their country, to their countrymen, and to the world their willingness of giving their lives if necessary with the same strength and vocation of the insurgent troops against Spanish rule, according to the organizers of the tribute.
The brigade will dedicate these gatherings to the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the centennial of his birth and will offer congratulations to the 74 collaborators in Guatemala who come from Granma province.
It was in that district, historical documents noted, that they asked the musician Pedro (Perucho) Figueredo to compose an anthem that would capture and convey to future generations the epic journey that culminated on October 20, 1868, with the free city.
In Guatemala, several doctors explained, there will also be a Fiesta de la Cubaníia (Cubanness Festival), activities that will bring together Cuban trends, elements, and movements: religious, ethnic, and cultural in general.
We will not only evoke national history, but we will also live it, share anecdotes, sing, and dance, they assured Prensa Latina in statements.
