Sudanese paramilitary leader acknowledges genocide in El Fasher

Khartoum, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) The top leader of the Sudanese paramilitaries, Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, admitted the massacres carried out by his troops in the city of El Fasher and ordered an investigation.

Dagalo, head of the so-called Rapid Support Forces (RSF), announced on the Telegram platform the creation of an investigative committee to punish those responsible.

Local media highlighted that according to the United Nations (UN), RSF fighters killed hundreds of people, including patients in a hospital, after seizing the city in West Darfur over the weekend.

The paramilitaries took El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, a city considered the army’s last stronghold in the region, after more than a year of bitter siege.

Meanwhile, Jacqueline Wilma Parlevliet, an official with the UN refugee agency, said that new arrivals reported widespread killings motivated by ethnic and political differences, including people with disabilities being shot dead because they were unable to flee.

For political observers, the capture of El Fasher could be a prelude to further division in Sudan, given the known intentions of the paramilitaries to install a parallel government there.
