Cabinet meeting with budget agenda in Uruguay

Montevideo, November 3 (Prensa Latina) The government's five-year budget proposal will be on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting convened by Uruguayan President Yamandu Orsi.

The budget initiative is currently under review by the Senate, after receiving general approval from the Chamber of Deputies.

The Minister of Economy and Finance, Gabriel Oddone, presented the proposal a week ago to the Budget Committee, along with the Finance Committee of the upper house.

Unions and social organizations are hoping for a reallocation of funds to address unmet demands. This sentiment was expressed on October 29 during the partial general strike called by the PIT-CNT, the national labor confederation.

According to parliamentary sources, the Broad Front coalition is looking for ways to “scrape the bottom of the barrel” to redistribute funds, in a scenario that the Minister of Economy and Finance, Gabriel Oddone, described as restrictive.

Another issue on the agenda for the ministerial council is the dispute between the Uruguayan State and the Spanish shipyard Cardama, which is in charge of building two ocean patrol vessels, according to a contract signed with the previous administration of President Luis Lacalle Pou.
