Maduro highlights Venezuela’s anti-drug trafficking model

Caracas, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) President Nicolas Maduro praised Venezuela's highly advanced anti-drug trafficking model, after confiscating 63 tons of drugs this year and destroying numerous logistical operations.

During Monday’s broadcast of his program “Con Maduro +,” the head of State indicated that this program is aimed not only at preventing the use of Venezuelan airspace and land, which, he said, “we prevent through the ongoing combat efforts of police, intelligence, and military forces.”

Maduro emphasized that the program is being conducted “with great success” and noted that achieving the goal of making Venezuela “one hundred percent free of any Colombian drug trafficking routes” is on track.

“Drug trafficking comes to us from Colombia,” he asserted, and commented that it is estimated that only five percent of all cocaine produced in that country passes through the Bolivarian Republic, which represents approximately 100 tons.

The president underscored that by late October, “we had seized, burned, and destroyed 63 tons,” as well as camps and airstrips. He also stated that, based on constitutional law, they have intercepted and downed “countless drug trafficking planes,” more than 20 of which this year.

General-in-Chief Domingo Hernandez, Commanding General of the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), informed last week that since the implementation of the Airspace Control Law in 2012, some 412 aircraft have been neutralized.
