Turkish President announces regional support program for Syria

Istanbul, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced the launch of a special support program for Syria, an initiative promoted under the auspices of the Permanent Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (COMCEC).

The announcement was made during his opening address at the 41st meeting of the organization, held at the Istanbul Congress Center.

The president noted that the Syrian people have paid “a very high price” over the past 14 years, recalling that nearly one million people have lost their lives, while millions have been forced to flee the country, including 3,6 million who have sought refuge in Türkiye.

The head of State expressed his satisfaction with Syria’s participation in the COMCEC ministerial meeting after a prolonged absence, and emphasized that the recovery and stability of the Arab country are a priority for Ankara.

In this regard, Erdogan reaffirmed his nation’s commitment to continue supporting the Syrian people in areas such as transportation, education, security, trade, health, and social services.

“The support of our organization and the Islamic world for Syria is crucial to preserving its political unity and territorial integrity, and to ensuring the sustainable prosperity of all our Syrian brothers and sisters,” he emphasized.

He also highlighted that Syria’s economic integration into the region will bring shared benefits and underscored the importance of developing transportation projects as a foundation for this cooperation.
