Venezuela congratulates Angola on 50 years of independence

Caracas, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela conveyed fraternal greetings and sincere congratulations to the people of Angola on the 50th anniversary of their declaration of independence from Portuguese colonization.

The Bolivarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yvan Gil, expressed the congratulations via Telegram on behalf of President Nicolas Maduro.

He emphasized that this achievement “paved the way for peace, a sovereign state, and the recognition of a diverse cultural identity.”

The high-ranking diplomat reaffirmed the historical ties that bind them to the Angolan people and reiterated “their commitment to cooperation in various areas, such as the economy, politics, and culture.”

Caracas and Luanda established diplomatic and political relations on December 6, 1986, and 20 years later, Commander Hugo Chavez paid a high-level visit.

During the Group of 77-China summit in Havana, Cuba, in September 2023, Presidents Nicolas Maduro and Joao Lourenco met.

Both countries currently maintain cooperative ties in sectors of the economy such as mining, and last April, both governments held political consultations in the capital of the African nation.

The delegation was headed by Vice Minister for Africa, Yuri Pimentel.
