Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, as the president of the regional bloc, confirmed the postponement of the meeting, scheduled for December 16.
Anwar told local media that the postponement will be brief and they only accepted the request to ensure that everything is in order.
The prime minister commented, “We continue to urge both sides to stop the fighting. The situation is very critical, and I maintain virtual contact with them (Thailand and Cambodia) daily.”
Anwar called on both governments to urge restraint after armed clashes resumed on their shared border on December 7.
The prime minister underscored that Malaysia is prepared to support initiatives that contribute to restoring calm and preventing further incidents.
Cambodia and Thailand accuse each other of violating ceasefire reached in Malaysia on July 28.
