ECLAC will update GDP projections for 2025 and 2026

Santiago, Chile, Dec 16 (Prensa Latina) The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will update its projections for Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth in the region for 2025 and 2026.

The report will be presented at ECLAC headquarters in Chile by the executive secretary of the United Nations agency, Jose Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs.

Last October, ECLAC estimated GDP growth of 2.4% and 2.3% for this year and next, respectively, forecasts that will be reviewed in light of global uncertainty and weak domestic economic activity.

The commission’s successive projections reflect changes in international trade scenarios due to the contradictory tariff announcements made by the United States since April.

This edition of the report analyzes the economic and social dynamics of the past year and discusses the risks and challenges for 2026, with the aim of advancing towards inclusive and sustainable development, according to a statement from ECLAC.

In its periodic analyses, the United Nations agency has insisted that the region is mired in three major development traps: low growth capacity, high inequality, and poor institutional performance.
