Cuban ambassador honors the 32 soldiers killed in Venezuela

Quito, Jan 6 (Prensa Latina) Members of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Ecuador paid tribute today to the 32 fighters from the island who faced the US military aggression against Venezuela last Saturday morning.

During the tribute at Cuba’s diplomatic headquarters in Quito, the ambassador of the Caribbean country, Basilio Gutierrez, highlighted the courage and dignity of the Cubans, who carried out missions on behalf of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, at the request of Venezuelan counterparts.

With a minute of silence he paid tribute to those who “knew how to put high, with their heroic action, the feeling of solidarity of millions of compatriots”, as expressed by the official statement of the government of Cuba read this morning.

The Antillean nation declared two days of mourning, from 06:00 local time on January 5 to 12:00 this January 6, 2026, as a tribute to those who “did their duty with dignity and fell, after stiff resistance, in direct combat against the attackers or as a result of bombardments on the premises”.

The Embassy of Cuba in Ecuador has received messages of solidarity and condolences from friends and organizations in this Andean nation, such as the Communist Party of Ecuador, which repudiated Washington’s attack on Venezuela and joined the national sorrow of the Cuban people.

“We raise our flags and say goodbye soon to our brave 32 fighters, whose honor and loyalty mark the way forward of our peoples and their militias,” said the text.
