China: military ties between nations should not affect third parties

Beijing, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) China stated that military cooperation between countries should not be directed against third parties or affect regional peace, commenting on a security agreement signed between Japan and the Philippines.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Guo Jiakun noted that this collaboration between States should not undermine regional peace and stability.

Guo remembered that Japanese militarism invaded the Philippines during World War II and perpetrated crimes against its population and allied forces, as well as assassinating Chinese diplomatic officials.

The spokesperson underscored that this history must be remembered and such crimes must not be repeated, while noting that Southeast Asian countries and the international community have consistently criticized Tokyo’s security policies.

He pointed out that Japan is not showing restraint and, on the contrary, is building up its armament and exporting lethal weapons, which, he said, reveals attempts at remilitarization.

Guo stated that peace-loving countries must firmly oppose the resurgence of Japanese militarism and safeguard regional stability.
