The Uruguayan brigade “Fidel Castro” traveled to Cuba with aid

Montevideo, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) Fifty Uruguayans that traveled to Cuba with humanitarian aid will join the South American solidarity brigade that is weakening the United States' ironclad blockade against the Caribbean island.

They are members of the “Fidel Castro” brigade, which departed from Carrasco International Airport carrying medical supplies and medicines in their luggage.

They also carried approximately $17,000 raised through a campaign promoted by the Coordinating Committee in Support of the Cuban Revolution, with the participation of citizens, political and social organizations, destined for the Caribbean nation’s health system.

For Lucia Moderneli, a sociology student at the University of the Republic, this is her first trip to Cuba.

“I am fulfilling a political dream of expressing my support for the Cuban people, and a family dream, since my father always wanted to make this journey but couldn’t,” she told Prensa Latina.

She stated that the contingent, made up of students, workers, and retirees, wants to “return Cuba’s internationalism and cooperation with the world.”

She expressed her gratitude to the 130,000 Uruguayans, including her grandfather, who have been operated on by Cuban ophthalmologists and have regained their sight during the 17 years of Operation Miracle in these South American lands.
