Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Guo Jiakun said that since the beginning of the pandemic, China has prioritized people’s lives and health and cooperated with the international community to address the health crisis.
He noted that the chronology and data of the Chinese response to COVID-19 are clear and have been widely recognized by the international community.
The spokesman stressed that these facts do not allow for distortions or campaigns of discredit, in response to US statements about an alleged concealment of information.
Guo stated that China strongly opposes the politicization of the pandemic and rejected attempts to blame Beijing for political purposes.
The spokesperson indicated that using the pandemic for political maneuvers has no international support and will not succeed.
Guo stated that the World Health Organization is an authorized and professional international institution in the field of global public health.
The spokesman noted that China took note of WHO’s regret at the decision by the United States to leave the agency.
Guo pointed out that multilateralism is a pillar of the current international order and a trend supported by the international community.
China, he said, will continue to support WHO in fulfilling its mandate, strengthening global health cooperation and improving public health governance.
The United States confirmed its withdrawal from the health agency, a decision that has generated international reactions amid discussions about multilateral cooperation in future global health emergencies.
