Italy looks forward to joining the stabilization force for Gaza

Rome, Jan 26 (Prensa Latina) Italy appreciates its incorporation into the International Stabilization Force (ISF) for Gaza, the multinational force envisaged in the Peace Plan for the post-conflict phase, a report says today.

According to a note published on the digital site of the newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, the Italian government is studying a proposal in this direction made by the United States, but it clarified that it ruled out the sending of troops and its possible contribution will be limited to police training and political influence with Israel, Arab countries and Palestinian leaders.

In this sense, the Italian Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, recently reaffirmed that this country is ready to provide the FSI with the support of mounted police troops to train the future Palestinian security forces, “when everything is over”.

Crosetto clarified that such support will have operational limitations, since the training would take place “in an external location”, possibly in this European nation or a third country, “to ensure the safety of Italian personnel,” the text notes.

The political debate now focuses on Rome’s objections to joining the so-called Peace Board for Gaza, whose creation is driven by US President Donald Trump, due to legal incompatibility, because the statutes of that entity violate Article 11 of the Italian Constitution.

The Italian Magna Carta establishes that this country can join international bodies with the transfer of sovereignty “only under conditions of equality between states”, and in the Peace Board excessive powers are given to the current US president.

The latter has the last word in majority decisions, selects members of the executive and can exercise unilateral vetoes, so “this asymmetry subordinates the body to the will of a single leader, which is incompatible with our legal system”, said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
