Angolans commemorate the legacy of Cuba’s National Hero

Luanda, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) Children in Angola's capital commemorated the life and work of Cuba's National Hero, Jose Marti, on the 173rd anniversary of his birth, which occurred on January 28, 1853.

In a tribute held at the primary school named after the Apostle of Cuban independence, students shared poems and drawings with an audience that included the Cuban ambassador to the country, Oscar León.

Martí’s ideas on education and the values that new generations should possess were highlighted at the event, which also included the participation of Noemia Kanokela, from the Luanda Provincial Education Office, and Fernanda Paraiso, head of the education and teaching section of the Maianga municipality.

Nine children from different grade levels won a drawing contest held to commemorate the date.

Their artwork reflected not only the image of the Cuban poet and revolutionary, but also aspects of his life and elements of his thought.

Jorge Trujillo, press and cultural attaché at the Cuban Embassy in Angola, emphasized that the contest was not organized by chance, and highlighted the importance Martí placed on education and children, as well as his interest in art and painting.

For the Cuban patriot, he noted, the independence of nations is built on education, values, and culture, and he always stressed the role of the school as the place where free, critical, and compassionate citizens are formed, capable of thinking for themselves and serving others.
