Erdogan and Trump discuss Syria and Middle East’s situation

Ankara, Jan 28 (Prensa Latina) The presidents of Turkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the United States, Donald Trump, held on Wednesday a telephone conversation in which they discussed several issues, particularly the situation in Syria.

The Turkish Presidential Communications Directorate’s statement, released by Anadolu Agency, noted that the talk covered the state of relations between Ankara and Washington, the latest developments in Syria, the work of the so-called Peace Council, and trade relations, highlighting the defense industry.

Erdogan underscored, during the phone call, that Turkiye and the United States will continue to take the necessary steps to strengthen cooperation, and emphasized that strengthening relations in all areas is in the mutual interest of both nations.

The Turkish president also noted that his country attaches great importance to the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Syria and the integration process in that neighboring country, and affirmed that Ankara is closely monitoring the evolving situation in coordination with the United States and the Syrian authorities.

Erdogan also expressed his hope that the Peace Council would achieve positive results and stated his conviction that ending the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip and advancing its reconstruction would help pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
