Ethiopian Foreign Affairs State Minister Berhanu Tsegaye and AU Commission Deputy Chairperson Selma Malika Haddadi co-presided over the meeting, which also explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed Addis Ababa’s role as host and strategic partner of the organization.
Haddadi conveyed the Commission’s gratitude for Ethiopia’s continued support of the AU and underscored the importance of close coordination to ensure the success of the upcoming Summit, scheduled for February 14-16.
Before the Summit, the Executive Council will meet on February 11-12, with the participation of foreign ministers and designated ministers from the member states.
As one of the Union’s principal political bodies, it is responsible for coordinating and making decisions on common continental policies, preparing agenda items for consideration by the Assembly of Heads of State and Government, and overseeing the implementation of the organization’s decisions in accordance with Agenda 2063.
The agenda includes reviewing the reports of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, deliberating on the AU’s participation in global platforms such as the G20, addressing matters of institutional governance, and considering elections and appointments within the bodies and institutions.
