The reactions arose after operations carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office at residences linked to leaders and members of the party, including former presidential candidate Luisa Gonzalez, for allegedly receiving cash from Venezuela for the 2023 election campaign.
The RC’s National Secretary of Organization and Political Action, Felipe Vega de la Cuadra, questioned the legal actions and pointed out that Noboa is mired in scandals involving corruption, the use of front men, links to criminal economies, and accusations of drug trafficking.
De la Cuadra maintained that, in this context, the Executive Branch resorted to media actions with the aim of establishing a political narrative in the public sphere.
Former presidential candidate Andres Arauz, one of those charged in the so-called “Slush Fund” case, rejected the investigation and denied any connection to the allegations.
“This is a politically motivated case originating from the Executive branch,” asserted Arauz, who agreed that it is a distraction tactic.
From the National Assembly, legislator Viviana Veloz pointed out that “when a government loses public support, it resorts to the lowest tactics: persecuting its opponents.”
