Our America is in danger, denounces Cuban Foreign Minister

Havana, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez denounced the dangers facing “Our America” due to warmongering doctrine of the United States government, exactly 12 years after the region was declared a Zone of Peace.

In a statement, the island’s foreign minister remembered when, during the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), 33 heads of state gathered in Havana signed the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace.

“Today, the peace, security, and stability of Our America are in danger,” the head of Cuban diplomacy asserted on social media, denouncing the causes as the warmongering doctrine of the administration in the White House, which seeks to impose “peace through force.”

In this regard, Rodriguez highlighted the “marked interest in reviving the discredited Monroe Doctrine” on the part of the US government.

The top diplomat of the Caribbean nation pointed out that in the current scenario, marked by the violence of imperialist ambitions, “it is urgent to reclaim the firm will of all CELAC members, expressed in that Proclamation.”

On January 29, 2014, then-President of Cuba, Raul Castro, announced the signing of the agreement that committed the governments and peoples to seeking a peaceful solution to disputes and to banishing the use or threat of force in the region.

The instrument established the obligation not to intervene, directly or indirectly, in the internal affairs of any other state, as well as to respect the principles of national sovereignty, equality, and self-determination.

Furthermore, it reaffirmed its commitment to fully respect the inalienable right of every State to choose its political, economic, social, and cultural system, as an essential condition for ensuring peaceful coexistence among nations.

This was also highlighted by various media outlets today under the headline “Defending Our Zone of Peace.”
