In an open letter, Accra urged the diaspora to defend Cuba’s independence, reject all forms of interference, war, sanctions, or collective punishment against the Cuban people, and to “act with historical responsibility, without serving as instruments for projects that seek the surrender of the Homeland.”
It also urged Cubans to prioritize dialogue and never hatred or national division.
“From Angola, Cuba’s sister nation and witness to the international solidarity of our people, Accra raises its voice to remind everyone that unity is now a moral duty and that the diaspora can—and must—be part of the defense, reconstruction, and future of the nation,” the statement said.
The message comes as the United States intensifies its threats of military aggression and its policy of economic strangulation against the Caribbean nation, with the aim of forcing a change in its political system.
Yesterday, US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency due to a perceived security threat emanating from Cuba.
Following this declaration, he signed an executive order authorizing the White House to impose additional tariffs on imports from countries that supply oil to the Caribbean nation.
