Mahmoud reiterated in a release the fundamental and ongoing importance of preserving the breakthroughs achieved under the AU-led Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA) between the Ethiopian Government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), signed in Pretoria on November 2, 2022.
He urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, refrain from actions that could undermine trust, and resolve all outstanding issues through constructive dialogue, in full respect of the obligations and spirit of the Permanent COHA.
The continental organization reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the full and effective implementation of the Peace Agreement and reiterated its continued support for the Parties throughout this process of consolidating stability and reconciliation.
The African Union, through its High-Level Group on Ethiopia, is willing to facilitate dialogue, cooperation, and confidence-building between the Parties in support of sustainable peace in the Tigray region.
