US measures against Cuba shock Italian public opinion

Rome, Jan 30 (Prensa Latina) The new measures taken by the US government against the Cuban people have shocked the Italian press, which is highlighting the criminal nature of Donald Trump's presidential decree to prevent fuel from entering the country.

An analysis published this Friday in the newspaper Il Fatto Quotidiano points out that Trump “is not stopping, following a well-established pattern” and “last night a new threat arrived” with the signing of “an executive order that would impose a tariff on all products from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba.”

This measure, according to the newspaper, “serves to further pressure Mexico,” as well as other nations of the world, an act that Cuba considers true state terrorism, using energy as a weapon against the civilian population, as well as economic piracy, by interfering with the legitimate trade of third countries.

For its part, the newspaper Il Post, referring to this new US aggression against the Caribbean nation, recalls that “Cuba has been going through a serious economic situation for years,” caused largely by the US trade and financial embargo.

It also warns that “oil is essential for Cuba’s numerous services” and cautions that “the island already lacks enough to meet all its energy needs, and blackouts are constant.”

A report published on the digital news site of the television channel Sky TG24 is titled “Donald Trump threatens tariffs on countries that sell oil to Cuba: What’s going on?”

It refers to Trump’s decree, which “establishes a procedure for imposing customs tariffs on goods from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba” and highlights the response of the island nation, which described the maneuver as “an act of brutal aggression.”
