“We call upon all our compatriots residing abroad and all dignified men and women in the world to raise our voices in rejection of this unjust, cruel, and anachronistic policy of the United States government,” the association stated in a declaration.
It strongly condemned the new escalation of aggression following the signing by US President Donald Trump of an executive order declaring a national emergency and establishing a process to impose tariffs on nations that sell or supply oil to Cuba. The organization pointed out that this is not merely an economic or political issue, but a humanitarian one, “a direct attack on the well-being of an entire people who have been suffering the longest and most ruthless economic, commercial, and financial blockade for more than six decades.
Depriving Cuba of access to oil paralyzes the country, applying a collective punishment considered genocide under international law; it is the greatest violation of the human rights they so often proclaim,” it stated.
It also noted that it constitutes a violation of international trade norms “by unilaterally applying the extraterritoriality of the empire’s aggressive policy by threatening to impose tariffs on third countries that sell oil to the island.”
“What crime has the Cuban people committed to deserve this suffering? Their only ‘crime’ is deciding their own destiny. T
This oil blockade is, in essence, an act of economic warfare against our sovereignty. It is an extension of an already inhumane general blockade, an attempt to subdue us, without success,” it asserted.
