A report from the National Institute of Statistics (Istat) indicates that the country’s inactivity rate stood at 33,7% in December 2025.
The reduction in the number of employed people particularly affected men, those with temporary contracts, people aged 25 to 34, and those aged 35 to 49. However, the number of employed people increased among women, the self-employed, and those aged 15 to 24.
There was also a 1,0% decrease in the number of job seekers, with approximately 15,000 fewer individuals.
This trend primarily affected women and people aged 25 and over, while the youth unemployment rate rose 1,4 percentage points to 20,5%, the source added.
