Gaza Strip faces a severe drug shortage

Ramallah, Jan 31 (Prensa Latina) Pharmacist Khaled Odeh reported a severe shortage of medications for chronic illnesses in Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli siege.

Quoted by the official news agency Wafa, the specialist warned of a lack of medications for heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and thyroid disorders.

This situation forces medical teams to change treatments according to the patient’s condition, but the tragedy worsens when the alternative is also unavailable, he emphasized.

In this regard, he explained that thyroid medication has been unavailable for about three months and there are no alternatives available, even in hospitals and health centers.

Israel only allows the entry of specific types of blood pressure medication and prohibits others, which represents a systematic manipulation of patients’ health and the imposition of an unjustified collective punishment, he stated.

Awda warned that the ongoing shortage leads to serious health complications for the population.

He noted that this situation is occurring amidst a deteriorating healthcare system, a consequence of constant Israeli aggression.
