Cuba loves peace, says Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Feb 01 (Prensa Latina) The Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA) reiterated that “Cuba does not constitute any unusual or extraordinary threat to the national security of the United States” or any other country.

The URCA, which expressed its full support for the Cuban government’s statement regarding Washington’s threats, maintains that “the pretexts used by Donald Trump to justify this new escalation are false and completely unfounded.”

It affirms that Cuba “is a country of peace, which has never attacked any nation and has contributed significantly to international cooperation, especially in areas such as health and education, with more than 60,000 Cuban professionals who have provided services in more than 160 countries around the world.”

The international community has repeatedly expressed its solidarity with Cuba and its rejection of the United States blockade.

In Argentina, the people and political, popular, and labor institutions, as well as previous governments, have historically demonstrated their solidarity with the Cuban cause, the group points out.

The URCA emphasizes that Trump’s executive order threatening tariffs on countries that supply oil to the island “constitutes an unacceptable aggression against Cuban sovereignty and a clear violation of fundamental principles of international law.”

Trump’s action, it concludes, violates essential principles of international law and regional agreements, including the principle of state sovereignty, the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, and the Charter of the United Nations.
