Cubans in Latin America and Caribbean against tough US pressure

Santo Domingo, Feb. 1 (Prensa Latina) The Network of Cuban Residents in Latin America and the Caribbean rejected the recent executive order by US President Donald Trump aimed at intensifying the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against the Caribbean nation.

In a statement sent to Prensa Latina, the Network asserted that “these actions, of a markedly hostile, interventionist, and unilateral nature,is a flagrant violation of International Law, the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, and the sovereign right of peoples to decide their own destiny without external pressure.”

An executive order released by the White House and signed by Trump declares a “national emergency” regarding Cuba and announces that tariffs will be imposed on countries that supply oil to the island.

The true purpose of the White House’s latest escalation against Cuba “is to deepen the economic hardships of the Cuban people, affect their quality of life, and generate social destabilization, without regard for the human damage such policies cause,” the Network warned.

From Latin America and the Caribbean, a region historically committed to peace, self-determination, and solidarity among peoples, we denounce that these new measures do not represent the majority sentiment of the international community, it emphasized.

Likewise, the Network of Cubans Residing in Latin America and the Caribbean reaffirmed its full support for the Declaration of the Cuban Revolutionary Government, which, with dignity, firmness, and adherence to international law, denounced these aggressions and reaffirmed its commitment to the defense of national sovereignty, social justice, and peace.

In the declaration, the Network demands the immediate cessation of all unilateral coercive measures against Cuba and absolute respect for its independence and sovereignty.
