In a statement from La Moneda Palace, Boric said the nomination will be presented this Monday in New York, along with Brazil and Mexico, the two most populous countries in Latin America.
Born in Santiago in 1951, Bachelet served two terms as President of Chile, from 2006 to 2010 and from 2014 to 2018.
She also headed UN Women and served as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2018 to 2022.
Boric officially announced his candidacy for UN Secretary-General at an event that also included the participation of Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren and the ambassadors of Brazil, Paulo Pacheco, and Mexico, Laura Moreno.
