Government forces deploy in Kurdish areas of Syria

Damascus, Feb 2 (Prensa Latina) Syrian security forces began deploying in predominantly Kurdish areas in the northeast of the country, in compliance with the agreement recently reached between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia.

According to local media reports, security forces entered the city of Hasakah, capital of the province of the same name, and the city of Kobani.

Likewise, a security forces convoy departed from the city of Shaddadi bound for the areas of Al-Malibiyah and the town of Al-Hawl.

Simultaneously, the SDF imposed a curfew in the city of Hasakah and in Qamishli, coinciding with these security measures.

The Syrian government previously announced the start of implementation of an agreement it described as “final and comprehensive” with the SDF, which includes a ceasefire and the adoption of a series of provisions aimed at integrating the military, security, and administrative forces of the northeast of the country into state institutions.

According to official sources, the agreement includes the withdrawal of military forces from the contact points, the entry of Interior Ministry security forces into the urban centers of Hasakah and Qamishli, and the creation of conditions to strengthen stability and advance a security integration process.
