This decision, the spokeswoman stated, “will seriously affect the economic and social activities and the lives of the Cuban people.”
Thu Hang was responding to a question about the recent executive order issued by US President Donald Trump, through which he declared a supposed national emergency, under which his government can impose trade tariffs on imports of products from countries that supply oil to Cuba.
She emphasized, “Vietnam reaffirms its support for the resolutions adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) over the years, urging the United States to immediately lift its unilateral embargo against Cuba and take steps toward dialogue and improved relations with Cuba.”
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson concluded by stating that Vietnam once again firmly reaffirms its traditional solidarity and friendship with the brotherly Cuban people.
In a statement issued after the signing of the said executive order on January 29, the Revolutionary Government of Cuba condemned, in the strongest terms, the latest escalation by the US administration in its efforts to impose an absolute blockade on fuel supplies to the Caribbean nation.
