During the official meeting with his counterpart, Xi Jinping, the two presidents exchanged views on bilateral relations, China-Latin America ties, and international and regional issues of common interest.
The statement noted that the two sides agreed to strengthen high-level exchanges and enhance cooperation in new areas to raise bilateral relations, and signed 19 agreements in areas such as trade and investment promotion.
Uruguay reiterated its adherence to the one-China principle and acknowledged that the government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legitimate representative of the entire country.
Montevideo expressed its opposition to any form of “Taiwan independence” and its support for Beijing’s efforts toward national reunification, according to the joint statement.
As part of his agenda, President Orsi will travel to Shanghai, China’s economic hub, to visit that city’s megaport and participate in a bilateral business forum.
