Both sides signed the mandate issued by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, following a meeting of the ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism, as reported today by Actualite.CD.
The delegations also reaffirmed their commitment to the Doha Peace Framework, signed on November 15, and assured that they will work in good faith to implement all its provisions.
According to the news outlet, the meeting was attended by members of the mechanism; representatives of the United States and the African Union as observers; and an envoy from Togo, the mediating country designated by the continental organization.
The United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO) and representatives of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region were also present at the meeting, given their role in ensuring the verification of the ceasefire.
MONUSCO, in particular, was tasked with deploying a mission to the city of Uvira in the coming days to monitor the ceasefire following the AFC/M23 rebels’ withdrawal from the city.
