The bodies of the Haitian nationals, recovered through search operations in France, were found among the total number of victims of the shipwreck, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship.
The boat was carrying seven passengers, including six Haitians, who were returning from a festive event. Three of them were rescued, the statement added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the statement concluded, pays tribute to the deceased and offers its condolences to the families of the victims, along with “the solidarity of the Haitian government with the educational community, deeply affected by this tragedy.” T
The Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement also thanked the sub-prefecture of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, in French Guiana, “for its efforts and resources deployed in the search for the victims’ bodies.”
