Imminent US withdrawal from military bases in Syria

Damascus, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) US forces deployed in northeastern Syria are preparing for a complete withdrawal from the country within the next few hours, reliable sources told Syria TV.

According to the sources, US troops at the Al-Shaddadi base, located in the northeastern province of Al-Hasakeh, are preparing for a complete departure within 24 hours, coinciding with the start of the withdrawal of troops from the US-led international coalition at the Kharab al-Jir base.

The media outlet’s correspondent in the area, the coalition has begun evacuating the Kharab al-Jir facility, located in the Rmeilan area, also in the northeast of the country, as part of a broader military withdrawal process.

These actions follow the agreement reached between the Syrian government and the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the northeast of the country.

The US Special Envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, had confirmed the end of the SDF’s leading role in the fight against the Daesh terrorist group and acknowledged that Damascus is in a position to fully assume security responsibilities, given its recognized central government and its participation in the international coalition against terrorism.

The official emphasized that Washington is not pursuing a prolonged military presence in Syria and that its policy is limited to eliminating the remnants of Daesh, supporting national reconciliation, and preserving the country’s unity, without supporting separatist or federalist projects.

At the end of last month, US officials admitted that a complete withdrawal of troops deployed in Syria was being considered, while President Ahmed Al-Shara intensifies efforts to reestablish state control over the northeast of the country.
