To Lam’s official welcoming ceremony took place at the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, and was led by Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), who accompanied the distinguished visitor to review the honor guard of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
This visit represents an opportunity for both countries to reaffirm their long-standing and close relations as neighboring nations, thus opening the door to expanding and enhancing collaboration in several fields, Him Raksmey, Executive Director of the Cambodian Center for Regional Studies, commented.
The expert underscored that To Lam’s trip takes on special significance in the context of Vietnam’s recent successful 14th National Party Congress, which re-elected its General Secretary.
Raksmey, quoted by the press, noted that the visit also offers the leaders of both countries the opportunity to exchange views on regional issues and seek joint solutions to enhance cooperation within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other regional cooperation mechanisms.
Vietnam is one of Cambodia’s five largest foreign investors, with nearly three billion dollars of registered capital in key sectors such as telecommunications, agriculture, energy, and finance, and is also its largest tourism partner.
