In a message posted on the Turkish social network InSocial, after meeting at the Presidential Complex in Ankara with European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kocsis, Yılmaz emphasized the strategic importance of the ties between Türkiye and the EU.
The Vice President noted that the meeting addressed the strategic nature of bilateral relations, the need for a credible and fair enlargement policy, and the urgency of achieving tangible progress within the framework of cooperation between the two parties.
The senior official stressed that taking concrete steps toward Türkiye’s full accession to the European Union, modernizing the Customs Union, liberalizing the visa regime, and revitalizing high-level dialogue mechanisms are essential elements for relations that, he emphasized, should not be limited to formal declarations.
“We believe a solid outlook for Turkish-European relations is possible, based on equality, competition, and inclusion, as well as on understanding mutual interests and shared responsibility,” he stated.
In closing, the Turkish Vice President expressed his gratitude to Kocsis and the accompanying delegation for the constructive dialogue and spirit of cooperation demonstrated during the meeting.
