It was a swift and broad response to the United States’ announcement of subjecting Cuba to an energy blockade through sanctions on those who supply it with fuel.
A statement from the Communist Party of Uruguay (PCU) condemned this hostile action and described it as a new escalation of the long and criminal blockade imposed by Washington on Cubans.
The National Directorate of the Vertiente Artiguista, which is part of the Broad Front (Frente Amplio-FA), emphasized, “We reaffirm our solidarity with the Republic of Cuba, which has endured harassment from the United States for more than 60 years to change its regime.”
The Liberation Left Front, another member of the FA, stated that the fuel blockade is a “deliberate deepening of the historical policy of imperialist aggression aimed at punishing sovereignty and subjugating peoples who do not submit to the interests of the United States.”
FA Representative Daniel Diverio told Prensa Latina that his country’s government can strengthen solidarity with Cuba in this new stage of US aggression.
The Social and Cultural Association of Public School Students-Federation of University Students of Uruguay (ASCEEP-FEUU) accused Washington this week of subjecting the Cuban people to hunger.
During the opening of the 19th Congress of the Single Construction Workers Union (SUNCA), its general secretary, Javier Diaz, announced that the union would support the Cubans in the streets, alongside social movements.
