The report by SEG Ingenieria is based on data from the National Administration of Power Plants and Electrical Transmissions (UTE), which had previously reported that by 2025 almost all of the country’s electricity generation would come from clean energy sources.
This January alone, hydroelectric power accounted for the largest share at 43.6 percent (equivalent to 491 GWh).
Wind power represented 33.7 percent of total energy generation, followed by biomass and solar power with 14.3 and 4.9 percentage points, respectively.
Meanwhile, electricity production from hydrocarbons remained in last place with a 3.4 percent share, representing a 20 percent year-on-year decrease.
According to data from the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, the country reached 98 percent of its electricity generation from renewable sources last year.
