This was reiterated by FA President Fernando Pereira at an event commemorating the 55th anniversary of the left-wing group, which brought together hundreds of activists in the town of Juan Lacaze, a historic Broad Front stronghold in the department of Colonia.
“The Broad Front will not be silenced, it will not hide,” he exclaimed, denouncing what he called the “brutal imperialist siege” against Cuba.
He stated that the US is attempting, as never before, to blockade the people of the Caribbean island in such an “inhumane and insensitive” manner, “preventing them from receiving food and oil, preventing them from living in peace.”
He reaffirmed the FA’s values of anti-imperialism and internationalism. We will not waver in our belief that countries have the right to decide their own fate with free will, he stated.
Pereira asserted that it has never been so explicit that Washington’s objective is to exploit Latin America’s natural resources.
He said that proof of this was the aggression against Venezuela on January 3rd. It wasn’t about democracy, but about imposing the law of the strongest to control Venezuelan oil, he emphasized.
