FA President Fernando Pereira made this statement at an event commemorating the 55th anniversary of the left-wing coalition, which brought together hundreds of activists in Juan Lacaze, a historic Broad Front stronghold in the department of Colonia.
“The Broad Front will not be silenced, it will not hide,” he exclaimed, denouncing what he called the “brutal imperialist siege” against Cuba.
He asserted that the US is attempting, as never before, to impose an “inhumane and callous” blockade on the people of the Caribbean island, “preventing them from receiving food and oil, preventing them from living in peace.”
He reaffirmed the Broad Front’s values of anti-imperialism and internationalism. We will not waver in our belief that countries have the right to decide their own fate with free will, he stated.
Pereira asserted that it has never been so explicit that Washington’s objective is to exploit Latin America’s natural resources.
He said that proof of this was the aggression against Venezuela on January 3rd. It wasn’t about democracy, but about imposing the law of the strongest to control Venezuelan oil, he emphasized.
