Youssouf welcomed Guterres to the AU headquarters and thanked him for his firm commitment to Africa and to strengthening multilateralism at a time of heightened global uncertainty.
The AUC chief underscored that the alliance between the two parties remains the cornerstone of effective global governance and a vital instrument for boosting peace, security, and sustainable development.
Youssouf and Guterres reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening strategic cooperation in line with Africa’s continental priorities as outlined in Agenda 2063 and the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
They agreed that industrialization is essential to achieving the continent’s growth trajectory, generating decent employment for young people, and consolidating long-term stability.
Guterres praised Youssouf’s leadership in raising the AU’s voice and capacity for action in global diplomacy, while also acknowledging Africa’s constructive and influential role in advancing multilateral reform initiatives, even within the framework of the Pact for the Future, with its principled and forward-looking guidance.
