Hurricane-force winds and cold temperatures hit Spain

Madrid, Feb 14 (Prensa Latina) Storm Oriana, the fifteenth of the season, is battering Spain today with strong hurricane-force winds and very cold temperatures across almost the entire country.

According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Oriana has triggered weather warnings across Spain this Saturday for snow, rain, and especially for wind and waves.

Twelve Autonomous Communities are under an orange alert, while Valencia is under a red alert.

Specifically, the red alert is in effect in Castellon, in the Valencian region, where gusts of up to 140 kilometers per hour are expected.

Orange alerts for wind are in place in Andalusia (Almería); Aragon (Huesca, Teruel, and Zaragoza); the Balearic Islands (Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera); Castile-La Mancha (Albacete); and Catalonia (Barcelona, ​​Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona), Murcia (Murcia Plateau, Northwest Murcia, Vega del Segura and Guadalentin Valley, Lorca and Aguilas); Valencian Community (Alicante and Valencia); and Melilla.

In addition, there are yellow wind warnings in Andalusia (Córdoba, Jaén, and Málaga); Asturias (Cordoba and Picos de Europa); Balearic Islands (Mallorca); Cantabria (its coast, Liebana, Central and Villaverde Valley, and Cantabria del Ebro); Castile and Leon (Avila, Burgos, Leon, Palencia, Segovia, and Soria); and Castile-La Mancha (Ciudad Real, Cuenca, Guadalajara, and Toledo).

Likewise, in the Community of Madrid (Sierra de Madrid); Murcia (Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón); Navarre (Central Navarre, Navarrese Pyrenees, and Ebro River Basin of Navarre); and the Basque Country (Álava, Gipuzkoa, and Biscay). La Rioja (Iberian Peninsula) and the Canary Islands (Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Tenerife).

The strong winds battering much of the country, with extraordinary danger in Castellón, led to numerous traffic restrictions and closures on some roads of the main network along the Mediterranean coast, and the Renfe railway company decided to cancel numerous train services within the Valencian Community and Catalonia.
