The investigations, which began a week ago after attacks on the high-speed rail line between Bologna and Pesaro, were extended after a similar act that affected the Lecco-Tirano line on Wednesday, and two on lines from Rome on Saturday, Corriere della Sera informed.
Between 05:00 hours and 08:00 hours (local time) on February 7, shortly after the start of the Winter Olympics in Italy, acts of sabotage in the Bologna and Pesaro lines disrupted train service across much of the country, triggering investigations into terrorism and attacks on public transportation.
Another investigation was opened just four days later into a similar incident on the Lecco-Tirano railway line in northern Lombardy, one of the cities hosting the major sporting event.
Following this, the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office opened a case for the crime of creating a risk of railway disaster due to the damage.
