At a meeting with Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi on Saturday in the context of the 39th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU), Guterres also welcomed the DRC’s joining the UN Security Council (UNSC), local press informed on Saturday.
The meeting addressed cooperation between the country and the global organization, as well as the security situation in the Great Lakes Region, the strengthening of multilateralism, and the DRC’s strategic role as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
Tshisekedi reaffirmed his country’s commitment to consolidating peace efforts and emphasized the need to move from words to action to ensure strict adherence to international law and the commitments made under signed agreements.
The head of State requested the cooperation of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the DRC (MONUSCO) as a reliable source of technical support to guarantee the implementation of the ceasefire monitoring and verification mechanism.
