The shipment was being transported on a Tanzanian-flagged vessel that was intercepted more than 700 kilometers off the coast, with 10 drug traffickers on board, the president wrote on his Twitter account.
This is the largest drug seizure in Salvadoran history, the president emphasized, specifying that the multipurpose support vessel was carrying 330 packages of cocaine hidden in ballast compartments, with an estimated value of $165 million.
Navy divers inspected the vessel’s tanks, which led to the discovery of the hidden narcotics, Bukele explained.
Of the 10 drug traffickers arrested, four are Colombian, three are Nicaraguan, two are Panamanian, and one is Ecuadorian.
